The Transportation unit has been acknowledged for its delivery on high-profile projects such as the Channel Tunnel, Terminal 5 and with continued success, the Bridges division has been winning significant national and international projects. They are therefore expanding and developing the national and international Bridge Engineering resources to continue supporting their capability to deliver high quality, cost effective and tailored engineering solutions to public and private sector clients.
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will be involved on a range of small to large projects which are industry and public high profile. The roles will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Depending on project size, leading or assisting delivery on all necessary aspects of project’s design and consultancy;
Dealing directly with clients and developing client relationships at the working and strategic levels;
Assist senior management in alignment of sub-division strategy with unit and group strategy;
Write the specifications for the projects and establish the schedules for design resources;
Working within a Quality Assured environment to produce technically correct results;
Use of structural analysis packages to support bridge design;
Maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the respective discipline engineering work;
Writing proposals and making presentations to clients;
Drafting technical reports in a range of bridge engineering areas, including feasibility, design, inspections and assessments;
As necessary, respond to contractor queries and attend site progress meetings;
Manage and mentor junior staff ensuring their skill set and career development.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
Candidates will already be in possession of relevant academic qualifications, have broad experience since post-qualification/ chartership and able to demonstrate exceptional bridge engineering technical competences. They should also have the necessary drive to achieve their goals and deliver commercial success.
The successful candidate should also have:
Strong academic, engineering degree qualified (or equivalent);
Chartered/ Professional Engineer status is essential for any candidate to be considered;
Project management, proven capability to deliver to deadline and team leadership/ development capabilities are essential to be successful in this role;
Capable of operating as technical lead as well as team member as scope and range of project interaction alters accordingly;
Experience of working on multiple concurrent commissions, and representing the company to clients;
Experience of site investigations and supervision including desk study reports in order to identify potential engineering hazards;
Ideally, experience establishing project scoping, design, contractual or financial management;
Experience of working with a range of project stakeholders, contractors and clients;
Be innovative, looking to develop their technical and management skills and the willingness to tackle any challenge;
Willing to develop technical skills and career experience working on multi-disciplinary, profile projects always demanding effective technical delivery;
Must have solid UK project experience, international experience would be beneficial but not essential and the ability to travel overseas would be a distinct advantage.
